Me and Marlies

Hi, I’m Sophie

I am a journalist, first. Now also an author, a brand founder, a verifiable beauty expert and a mother (hooray!)

I documented much of my personal infertility Mother Project in a column for The Times, which resulted in the birth, by surrogacy of my beautiful daughter at the very beginning of the pandemic.

Now I am the SUPER proud mother of two beautiful girls, aged 4 and 1. They are happy, I am happy (ish), we’re good, finally. So why the ‘ish’? Because I’m an ‘older’ mother. A full decade older than most of my mates at the schoolgates in fact. I’m also a veteran beauty editor, with this huge world of knowledge and tech and innovation and advice at my fingertips, so why don’t I take it myself? I’d just let it go a bit.

This will be the safe space to pursue some midlife, ‘me-again’ age-reversing self help - and in doing so, share-help. It’s #AgeingUnplugged. The real and raw truth about what is going on with me, with us and our ageing and (the good news) how to adapt to change, rather than run away from it. It’s the beauty pursuit of youth, but the good sh*t. The stuff that actually works.

Plus, there will always be questions. I think I have probably heard them all, so, here, for posterity (mine) and practicality (yours) I’d like to keep the conversation going. To answer the big ones, tackle the issues you’re probably facing if you’re anything like me.

Along with this I'll be covering my many and varied edits, tips, advice and hacks across interiors, style and travel, Q&A’s some shopping edits and I'll also want to hear from you.

WHY SUBSCRIBE?

This newsletter is for anyone who needs a little advice, reassurance and general dopamine in their lives. Or comfort, or encouragement, or even just to feel seen. My intention is to write honestly, meaningfully and with authority on this very broad topic, to document it and support anyone who can relate in any way - mother or other.

It will be a pleasure to connect with you, so if you fancy it dropping into your inbox every week then you can subscribe here:

AND WHY BECOME A PAID SUBSCRIBER?

For some of you, you might want to have greater access and connection to this newsletter. But you also might just want to support a writer who is going independent and writes this column in her evenings and on her weekends. If you can afford to do it, and I know not everyone can, supporting writers financially is one of the biggest gifts you can give them, since it allows them to continue.

In return you’ll get access to the entire archive of this newsletter and invited into all of our Q&A sessions where you’ll get to chat to me and our community. There will be other things along the way too. Exclusive discounts, giveaways, video tutorials and direct contact too.

So, if coming on board as an early paid subscriber is for you then you can click below. it really will mean the world in the early days of this Substack.
